In the 7 areas of learning there are 3 prime areas which are based on the ages of 2 - 3 years old. These prime areas are: 

- Personal, Social & Emotional Development (PSED)

- Commuication &  Language (CL)

- Physical Development (PD)

Staff ratio for our 2 year olds is 1:5 as of September 2023 (1 adult to 5 children)

Our 2 year old
room (Yellow Room)

In our 2 - 3 year old room, our resources and activities are mostly used on the floor where it is easier and more inviting for our younger children to come into the room and onto the floor to play. We have our creative table where children can sit around and enjoy anything from drawing to gluing, painting and messy play to then down on the floor for story time/nursery rhymes, using the building bricks or musical instruments or exploring the more tactile and sensory resources on offer, as well as so much more for our little ones to enjoy.

At this stage of the children's development it is so important to not only allow them to have resources available to learn through play, but to also encourage their speech & language as well as their socialisation with others and handling their own emotions. We encourage small group play to support these areas and lots of interaction between child and staff/other children to take place to build their vocabulary and characters.

Transitioning into the 3-4 year old room

Whether your child has spent a full year in our 2 year old room or just a few months, a smooth transition into the older classroom is important in continuing to grow. When it is time to do this, your child's key person and manager will discuss where the child's development is at and then make arrangements for the child to spend a short period of time at first in their 'new classroom' before extending this time. This gets them familiar with the new surroundings and gives the parents the opportunity to discuss any concerns or questions with us before they move into the 3 - 4 year old room entirely and happily.

In our older children's stage of development, their learning starts to grow and the use of their literacy, maths, their knowledge and exploration is widened around the room; this is through our mixed range of resources from: using construction materials, imaginative play, sensory/messy play, tabletop resources like puzzles and recognising letters/numbers, following more of a curriculum which will change every couple of weeks depending on what the topic is. Towards the final months we work harder on more pen and paper time and acknowledging/learning about the children's new schools and becoming 'school ready' and so much more.

Our 3 - 4 year old
room (Green Room)

Based on our 3 - 4 year olds, as well as focusing on the 3 prime areas, we then begin to focus on the next 4 specific areas of learning which are: 

- Literacy (L)

- Mathematics (M)

- Understanding the World (UW)

- Expressive Arts & Design (EAD)

Staff ratio for our 3 - 4 year olds is 1:8 (1 adult to 8 children)

The children love both of our brightly decorated room with toys to be explored wherever you look and so many activities on offer, but not as much as they love Our Garden!

Transitioning your child from our pre-school setting onto reception

When it is time for your child to move onto reception, the child's key person will gather all learning and development progress the child has made and it will be shared with parents. Your child's school may arrange visits to get to know the child and for the child to get to know them before they start. Those visits may be the school teachers coming into Georgie Porgy's or the child having a school visit with their parents to where they will be starting. Your child's key person will support parents and their child through this transition as it can be a bit overwhelming for all. They will do this by having school talks, speaking about uniform and possibly what other peers they may be going with.
